Black Writers Reunion & Conference 2009
June 18-20, 2009 - Las Vegas, Nevada
CALL FOR SESSION PROPOSALS

Black Writers Reunion & Conference is accepting proposals for workshops and seminars on the craft and business of writing to be presented at the 5th BWRC in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 18-20, 2009. We invite presentations that demonstrate insight and expertise on the craft and business of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, entertainment, technical, proposal, play, screen, new media, travel, inspirational, and business writing as well as self-publishing, publishing, marketing, journaling, blogging, and related themes. We are especially interested in interactive workshops which will allow participants to engage in hands-on writing or related activities wherever possible and to receive feedback on their work, whether during or immediately following the conference. Workshop styles may range from a modified traditional presentation to skill-building training. Proposals will be evaluated on the following:

Session Duration

Twelve sessions will be 85 minutes in length. Sixteen sessions will be one hour in length. We are also seeking 2-3 professionals to offer manuscripts critiques before the conference (fees to be determined based on word count), one of whom will be asked to make him/herself available to oversee a critique session during the conference.

Terms

Because we strive to keep registration fees as affordable as possible while recouping enough to cover production expenses, our limited treasury does not permit payment of honorariums or travel expenses for speakers. We do, however, offer speakers a package with a value of approximately $1,000. We waive all conference fees including admission to conference activities and we cover lodging expenses for a minimum of one night. We also offer faculty free ad placement in the conference program and on the website along with opportunities to sell books or other materials during the conference as a vendor at no cost with priority consideration for vendor slots and booth placement. Additionally, we will promote faculty books (up to two) via the website provided graphics and links are supplied. Additional presenters are welcome but will be required to pay the conference registration fees.

Location/Venue

Please note the location for the 2009 conference has not yet been contracted and the June 18-20 dates are not guaranteed until that time. Workshop selections will not be confirmed with presenters until the venue contract is signed.

Available Topics

A list of currently available topics of interest can be found below.
